Wells fargo mattress firm account Wells Fargo WellsTrade Brokerage Account Review

Wells fargo mattress firm account

NerdWallet examines the Wells Fargo WellsTrade online brokerage account and its ongoing promotions, rewards and bonuses offered to help consumers find the lowest prices and best online brokers to sign up for.

Associated with popular bank Wells Fargo, WellsTrade offers banking and financial services to customers across the United States. Many users appreciate the firm’s selection of accounts and funds – including 1200 no-transaction-fee mutual funds – and the ability to link Wells Fargo banking and brokerage accounts, and qualify for free services by doing so. However, most were unhappy with the firm in general unless they qualified for a PMA account.

Though recently cut in half, WellsTrade’s commissions still aren’t the cheapest, but are in line with many competitors; starting at $25, their broker assists are also average. The firm charges $30 annually for IRAs. Other fees are a bit pricier by comparison. Each mutual fund trade costs $35, and those trading penny stocks must pay the greater of $34.95 or 3.5% of the principal. There’s also a $60 annual maintenance fee for non-IRA accounts and a steeper-than-average $95 fee to transfer or terminate an account.

Most users classify WellsTrade’s trading platform as basic. It has limited customizability, some charting, and screeners for stocks, mutual funds and ETFs, as well as the ability to set alerts and create watchlists. Quotes are delayed. Users often criticize the site’s executions and report limit orders not being executed, among other bugs. Some also note that the site is often down during high volume trading. One bright spot in the platform is its research, both from in-house experts and third-party provider Standard & Poor’s. The site offers very limited education.

While you can always reach a WellsTrade rep – by phone or email; the firm doesn’t offer live chat – customers frequently complain about hold times and communication disconnects between the banking and brokerage divisions. Members can also visit one of Wells Fargo’s over 6000 US banking centers.

For the same commissions as at WellsTrade, customers could access a better platform elsewhere, like TD Ameritrade. On the other hand, for Wells Fargo customers, or those who qualify for a PMA package – and a decrease in commissions and fees – the brokerage could still be worthwhile.
