Dear Wells Fargo,

Since we contacted Wells Fargo about our complaint with the Mortgage refinance, we have been promised many times that the issue would be resolved in a timely manner.

It has been several months and it seems that every week we receive a letter from the Customer Care and Recovery Group. Sometimes we get 2 letters a week, all stating the same thing, however the date that this is expected to be resolved is always different, the date keeps getting pushed back. Just like our closing did.

This speaks volumes to me and others that Wells Fargo does not care about their customers, that all they want is their money.

With the world that we live in now, one would think that customer loyalty would matter, and with all the Social Media sites available to post grievances. Also lets not forget the events that Wells Fargo has recently been through with the unnecessary selling of your products that most of your customers were unaware of.

We truly regret using Wells Fargo to refinance our home. That is why we used a Credit Union who values their members to complete our Home Equity line of credit. After what we experienced with Wells Fargo during the Refinance process, WE GOT SMART and decided not to use your company for that. The Credit Union could have saved us hundreds of dollars in closing costs and other fees. And we could have actually received an accurate home appraisal report. Shame on us for using you for the refinance in the first place.

I am a very Social person and not afraid to speak my mind or to let people know how I feel about certain companies or how they treat their so called Valued Customers.

The whole process with Wells Fargo has left a very bad taste in our mouths. We should have learned when we opened a checking account with Wells and then found out that everything we were told by the banker was a complete lie. Thus, resulting in us closing out the accounts, and staying with the Credit Union.

I guess that you will continue to send 1 or 2 letters a week stringing this along, or perhaps you will suddenly resolve this matter just to shut me up and move on. For that fact, what does it mean that you are looking into this matter and working to resolve it? Just what exactly is that going to do for me? Its not like you are going to admit that your costs are higher than others and refund a portion of what we paid. Or that you will start using an honest and accurate Home appraisal company that perhaps is not in your back pocket.

Either way, there will always be that bad taste left by Wells Fargo. And for other people thinking of using you, I can always tell them our experience so they can have the chance to avoid the dishonesty and go elsewhere to feel Valued.

Wells Fargo Offering Free Credit Check

I like free things. I like free samples at the grocery store. I love buy one, get one coupons for dinner at my favorite restaurants. But I especially love to get freebies on things I not actually want to have, but need to have. And when it comes to a credit check, I’m one of those people who needs to have it.

I’ve mentioned before that Lauren is a Wells Fargo account holder. And if you’re a Wells Fargo customer like her, then you’re eligible to receive your credit score – for free – any time between now and November 15th.

It’s part of the bank’s partnership with the American Bankers Association, which is sponsoring its 10th annual “Get Smart About Credit” Day on October 18th. Usually, you’d have to pay Wells Fargo for your credit score or credit report – but not now! Just go in to your nearest Wells Fargo branch and get a unique code from one of the bankers; you’ll use that code to get access to your credit score and report for free online.

Wells Fargo is also offering customers a free credit check between now and November. The company has pledged to spend 60,000 hours volunteering their services to educate young adults about their credit. Topics to be covered include understanding how your credit score is calculated, how your credit score impacts your borrowing power, and how to manage your finances so as to maximize your credit score.

Why You’ve Got To Check Your Credit

If you’ve ever gone to apply for a home or auto loan, only to have your application unexpectedly denied, you know why it’s so important to check your credit score regularly. But knowing your credit score isn’t enough – those three numbers, compiled by Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion, the three credit rating agencies, are just a snapshot of your credit’s health at any given time.

The government’s Free Credit Reporting Act requires those credit agencies to give you a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months. There are a lot of companies out there that pledge to give you access to a free copy of that report – remember that catchy jingle for FreeCreditReport.com? – but only one, AnnualCreditReport.com, is authorized by the government to do so. The other “free reports” often come with strings attached, like monthly credit monitoring services or identity theft coverage.

Your credit report is where you’ll see the real dirty laundry of your finances. Habitually late on a loan? Forgot about a credit card you took out in college? Your credit report has it all. But remember – it may also have mistakes, like loans you paid off but weren’t removed by the lender, or may even show evidence of identity theft or fraud. I’ve gone over my credit report annually for years on my own, but the chance to go over it with finance professionals is a great opportunity.

So, if you are a Wells Fargo customer, be sure to visit your local branch in the coming weeks to take advantage of these freebies.

Wells Fargo, Unauthorized Accounts and Your Financial Life

In September, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) fined Wells Fargo $100 million for creating millions of unauthorized accounts in customers’ names. These deposit and credit card accounts were created without their customers’ permission.

In addition to being a huge breach of customers’ trust – we expect banks like Wells Fargo to guard and protect our personal and financial information, not abuse it – these unauthorized accounts may have damaged these consumers’ credit scores and had other sorts of impacts on their finances. Here are three ways victims may have been hurt:

  1. Credit Scores May Be Lower. Wells Fargo credit cards opened in victims’ names may have lowered credit scores by shortening the average account age on their reports, which is one of the factors credit agencies use to calculate scores.
  2. Tougher to secure other loans. It may have also made it more difficult for consumers to secure other loans, as having too many open lines of credit is seen as a red flag by some lenders.
  3. Unauthorized fees were paid. The unauthorized credit cards Wells Fargo employees opened also included annual fees and other charges, which the customers didn’t realize or paid unknowingly, since the fees were charged to the credit card or were paid from deposit accounts. Apparently some Wells Fargo employees even temporarily moved customers’ money from legitimate accounts into new, unauthorized accounts, which may have resulted in overdraft fees or other charges, according to the CFPB.

So what can you do to protect yourself against unauthorized bank accounts?

If you’re a Wells Fargo customer, go to your local Wells Fargo branch and ask to see a list of all the accounts opened in your name . If you find an account you didn’t open, check to see if you were hit with any fees or charges because of that account. If you were, you’re entitled to part of the $2.5 million in restitution Wells Fargo has been ordered to pay affected customers.

Next, check your credit report regularly . By law, everyone is allowed one free copy of their credit reports from each of the three major credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) each year. Go to annualcreditreport.com to get your reports and then review them, checking for any bank accounts, credit cards or loans that you don’t remember applying for.

If you find suspicious accounts, file a dispute with the credit reporting agency. Each credit reporting agency has a process for disputing items on your report. After you file the dispute, they and the bank or company involved with the questioned account will investigate the issue. You can also have a note added to your credit report that will explain the situation to future creditors who pull your file.

Finally, decide whether you should close the account. Regular checking or savings accounts won’t impact your credit score, so those can be closed without any repercussions. However, an unauthorized credit card in your name could be affecting your debt-to-credit ratio (potentially even improving it) and closing it might negatively affect your score. Be aware of this possibility before closing the account, especially if you’re counting on your credit score for a mortgage or loan application in the near future.

Even if you aren’t a Wells Fargo customer potentially impacted by these unauthorized accounts, it’s always a good idea to do several annual checks of your credit report to look for suspicious accounts or debts, which can be a sign your identity has been stolen. Your bank might also offer alerts for your accounts, which send you a text or email when your account dips below a certain amount. This sort of tool can help you catch acts of fraud and stay on track with your spending budget.

Even if you don’t suspect you’ve become a victim, regularly review your financial accounts for accuracy. The sooner the fraud is detected, the sooner you can stop the crooks from doing any more harm and begin fixing the damage they may have already caused.

long process and wanted so much info

very long process i mean its only 5k and it took 5 days to process and they wanted documents on what the personal loan was going to be used for ??its called a personal loan for a reason,its ok for them to make felonuios account for people ,who do not want a loan and but when someone who really does want to get a loan they will hike the intreast rate high i mean 20 percent high, i intend to pay this within 6 mouths,i will never go back to them, as i was in a jam and this was kinda the only option. i will be going to credit union to get a better rate next time thanks for taking long and being over price. id advise check other banks as this will not effect credit score, as it is ran as a credit report do your reseach apply for a few and pick, i learned the hard way thanks .

Not a loan but a fraudulent activity rep

Call the customer service line reported fraudulent activity on my account. Charges I know nothing about. Sat on hold for over 2 hours and no one ever answered the phone. Hung up and called back and was put on hold again to sit there for another hour with no customer service. This is ridiculous I'm looking for a new bank.

Seriously? This is just ridiculous. Wells Fargo themselves did not open any fraudulent accounts. Their employees did, and those employees have been let go. And just because some unsavory people they had in their employ did shady things does not cast a shadow on Wells Fargo as a whole. Yes, they had heavy sales goals on their employees but those have been stopped. Therefore, your attitude about it is unwarranted.

In regards to the interest rate, it seems like you probably have some issues with your credit report. I know it stinks because I have the same issues right now but you can't be angry with Wells Fargo for seeing you as a risk if your credit history is not squeaky clean. That's just how it is. Just because you want a loan doesn't mean they need to give it to you, and as for how long it took it needs to go through an underwriting process so you would experience that anywhere. It could be faster, but the underwriting would still occur.

I work in this field and I understand how these things work. But trying to shine a bad light on Wells Fargo because they gave you a high interest rate is incredibly unfair.

Lastly, you stated that this was "kind of your only option" but that in the future you should do your research and apply for a few and pick. That is terrible advice, your credit could be damaged by applying for too many different credit products at once. If Wells Fargo ended up giving you the loan you should be thankful that you got the money in the first place because with the history you likely have credit-wise you are fortunate.

I bank with Wells Fargo and I find them to always be very friendly and I have never had any issues. In the future, please be sure to spell check your submissions because it seriously impacts your credibility. I hope that I have helped you to understand why certain things were the way they were. And please, in the future, don't try to use something happening in the media for personal gain. THAT is shady.
