This is a Bluebird app review. We think Bluebird card is the best prepaid debit card on the market. We did a detailed post providing the reasons why we think it is the best alternative to a traditional checking account. Now we are equally excited about the Bluebird app and here is why:

Great Android and iOS Apps

The app is available both on Andriod and iOS (for iPhone and iPad). We have tested both of them and found them to be very robust and easy to use and navigate. One thing we like about the phone app is the layout. It’s easy to get to the things you want to do verify quickly, including bill pay, sending money, making a deposit into your account and requesting money from another Bluebird account holder. You can also easily view your account balance, transaction history and information on sub accounts as shown in the image below.

You can do a lot on the app. First, you can deposit checks via phone. All you need to do is take a picture of the check using your phone camera and you are done. You can also easily pay your bills using the app. That is a very convenient feature especially if you are on the go and forgot to pay some bills. The other feature we like is the ability to transfer funds into your Bluebird account from your linked accounts, including your bank accounts. You can also send money to other Bluebird card holders or sub accounts that you have, like ones for other family members like children etc. Watch the attached video for a detailed list of all the features we like about the app.

You also have access to special offers American Express provides to it’s card holders within the app, like deals from third parties that America Express has relationships with.

Bluebird Prepaid Debit Card Review

Is the America Express Bluebird Prepaid Debit Card worth it? In this post, we tell you why we think the Bluebird Card is indeed the best alternative to checking account on the market. When the Bluebird Card came out, it was promoting features that are usually NOT associated with a prepaid debit card. You could even pick up a set up packet at Walmart for $5 and you could start using your temporary card right away, with many great features, even before your permanent card arrives in the mail. See the video below for how that works and why we like the idea.

As you can see, there is a lot packed into this card. At first, it was too good to be true. But then we went ahead and signed up for our own card. That’s when we came to the realization (and conclusion) that the Bluebird card wants to be different and it is different from the rest. Here are the features we like best.

This is a very big deal. The Bluebird Card has been in existence for a few years now and American Express has kept to their promise. There is no monthly fee and overdraft fees, which is a source of frustration for other prepaid debit card holders.

Direct Deposit and Check Writing

Not only can you direct deposit your paycheck or government benefit/Tax refunds to your Bluebird card but there is no fee. In addition, you can write checks with your deposit card, which makes it very convenient for people who do not have bank accounts but need to write checks for whatever reason. Yes, the card comes with free online bill pay but the ability to write checks is a big advantage over other prepaid cards on the market. See the video below for how the check writing process works (to help you avoid overdrawing the account, which is a good thing)

Robust Mobile Application

The Bluebird Mobile Application (Bluebird app) is very convenient and easy to use. You can track and manage your account online, add checks to your account using your camera phone, add funds from your bank account with ease and pay your bills using the phone app, send and receive money from anyone with a Bluebird account and check your account balance.

There are over 25,000 MoneyPass ATMs that are free for Bluebird cardholders, including those located in Walmart stores. This is a great benefit since ATM fees is also one of the big sources of irritation for other prepaid card holders. Having the ability to get cash without having to pay a fee gives the card a great feature that traditional bank accounts enjoys, and makes it attractive to the unbanked who are tired of check cashing places.

For these three reasons, we think the Bluebird Prepaid card is the best prepaid card on the market and Consumer Reports agrees that it is a smart way to pay.

It is an experience that few forget, and one that reflects why Nashville is known as Music City.

Bluebird Customer Service Phone Number

This post is about the American Express Bluebird Customer Service Phone Number. We have the number below. But we want to focus on the customer service issues card holders are experiencing when they call the toll free number and how you can get a live person on the phone.

If you have any questions or issues using your Walmart Bluebird Card, you can call customer support toll free at 1 (877) 486-5990. If you are out of the country, you can call collect at 1 (801) 449-4016. Customer support agents are available 24/7 to help you with your questions. Bluebird Customer Service Phone Number

However, the reality for some cardholders have been different. Yes, you can call at 2AM but are you going to get the help you need? Are you going to be able to speak to a live person? Are the support agents knowledgable? Can you understand them when they speak? Based on our own research, which we have detailed here, American Express needs to improve the customer service that is currently being provided for this card. Some of the issues can easily be resolved if there were clear rules that can be easily accessed regarding the card. A lot changes have already been made regarding the Bluebird card, and cardholders have questions regarding the following:

  • What are the Direct Deposit limits?
  • Why does it take so long for Direct Deposits to show up on the card?
  • Why is there such a large hold on the card when you pay for gas at the pump- and it takes forever for the hold of funds to be released?
  • What are the limits to how much you can transfer from a linked checking or savings account?
  • Can you really direct deposit government benefits like Social Security?

Answers to these questions can be found on the FAQs section of the card website, which can be found here. But you have to dig for the information – which is why people call customer service to get the information – and become frustrated when customer service is not available or unhelpful.
