How to Choose the Right Credit Card for You
As we compare our Capital One Venture card review to our reviews of the Capital One VentureOne® card, Wells Fargo Visa Signature®, and Platinum Delta SkyMiles® credit card, consider your personal credit needs.
Are you more interested in an excellent, competitive interest rate than annual or balance transfer fees? Or, since you are considering travel rewards credit cards, are your rewards or miles the most important factor for your final choice?
Not all travel rewards cards offer the same benefits or rewards. Consider the following when choosing the best travel rewards credit card:
- Foreign Transaction Fees. If you are searching for a travel rewards card, it is likely that you travel frequently. Therefore, look for a card with low or no foreign transaction fees. A 3% fee is common for credit cards, but can add up to a lot if you use your card frequently during travel. The Capital One Venture Card, Capital One VentureOne®, and Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card have no foreign transaction fees.
- Rewards Rate & Redemption. Check the rate of rewards and how you can redeem them before settling on a credit card. While some cards offer a dollar-per-point ratio, other cards are much lower.
The Wells Fargo Visa Signature® Card, for example, has a reward rate of $1 per 100 points for cash redemption or $1.50 for airfare redemption. The Capital One Venture card and Capital One VentureOne® give you 2 and 1.25 miles, respectively, per dollar you spend. Delta SkyMiles® Platinum benefits will give you 1 mile per $1 spent, or 2 miles per $1 spent with Delta.
- Introductory Rate/Sign-up Bonus. Many of the best credit cards offer introductory interest rates or sign-up bonuses to encourage new customers to apply. These promotions and bonuses can help you save money in your first year of being a customer.
The Delta SkyMiles® credit card, Capital One Venture card, Capital One VentureOne® card, and the Wells Fargo Visa Signature® credit card all offer either bonus miles or points for meeting a minimum purchase amount within the first three months of your account opening.
- Additional Benefits. To get the most out of your Venture Capital credit card, Wells Fargo card, or Delta card, you should consider the additional benefits offered by each card.
Capital One Venture card benefits, for example, include fraud coverage, security alerts, travel protection, complimentary concierge service, and more. The Venture Capital credit card also offers rewards that do not expire, and they are redeemable as a statement credit for easy use toward your purchase of airfare.
